Facilitating healing, change and growth for Individuals, Groups, Couples and Families

Edna McKelvey - Who Am I & How I Work

Hello and welcome to my Web page.   Here’s a little bit about who I am and how I work -

As a Psychotherapist and Coach in Sydney, Australia, I work with individuals, couples, groups and families in my private practice and within a variety of different organisations.   Aside from seeing clients privately, I am engaged in several different areas within the therapeutic profession that help to fuel an area I am  ‘passionate’ about – that of family systems and group work

I am a group facilitator and educator for family groups in the midst of dealing with a range of issues such as addiction, anxiety, depression, compulsive behaviours and are usually struggling with healthy relating.   I facilitate other weekly groups to achieve personal growth and change through healing from the impact of family of origin & interpersonal communication issues, and lastly work in groups with students engaged in and learning about groupwork.

My therapeutic approach is holistic and integrated, and I use several techniques to assist understanding of what may unconsciously drive us in life, or what our body can tell us about ourselves which can facilitate increased personal awareness.   These may be introduced easily in session as and if required, such as Hypnotherapy, Creative Visualisation, Focusing, Sandplay therapy, the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), or Emotional Muscle Testing.

I work with clients on a broad range of issues such as Addiction, Anxiety & Depression, Survivors of Sexual or Physical Abuse and Trauma, Grief and Loss, Parenting or Family Issues as well as negotiating Transitions in career, relationships or family.

The human spirit is what really inspires me - I have immense belief in what it is able to withstand and further achieve when supported with faith, love and unconditional positive regard, which is always my aim to provide in session.   I am blessed to see courage in action almost daily in my work as I see clients embrace their fears and experience greater insight and understanding.

Whether you are in emotional or physical pain within your personal, family or business life, or are feeling confused, anxious or ‘down’, I will support you and work with you to help you gain more awareness and understanding of what is happening for you at this time.

Once aware of behaviours, beliefs or patterns that may block or stop us in achieving what it is that we wish to achieve, then education, skills development and experiential learning is an essential component of change to move forward.   This is the value of integrating coaching and therapy.

Aside from my therapeutic and coaching expertise, my background incorporates management, consulting and sales in small to large organisations across a range of industries such as IT, Training, Recruitment and Property Development.

I was born in Scotland and have lived and worked in North America, UK, Europe and Australia.   My husband and I love living in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, and I enjoy being a parent to a teenage son and two step-daughters – oh, and two dogs, the West Highland Terriers, Angus & Ruby.

Between them all, they are consistently my life teachers!
